It's not free, but a similar program called Gimp is free.

It comes bundled with Photoshop, so if you have that already it's kinda free. ;)

Great mini-tut! I have a question though - whenever I have an object that moves about from frame to frame (like the pencil in this) how do you move it without it moving on each subsequent frame, or is it on every frame, just in a different position?... :confused:

As long as you aren't editing in frame 1, the previous frames will not move. So if in frame 2 you move the pencil left 5 pixels and down 10, in frame 1 the pencil will stay the same. However, when you create the next frame, the pencil will be where you moved it in frame 2. Just be sure you have a seperate layer for everything.
